In this Beyond the Classroom lecture, Alexander Grigoriev, professor of data science for business and economics, explains his excitement for mathematics, geometry, and topology through the study of knots! In doing so, Alexander intends to illustrate the beauty of these subjects.

Alexander will take us on a journey from the ancient art of pirate and sailor knots to the cutting-edge techniques of modern surgical knotting, including the remarkable ability of one-handed robots to create precise knots during operations. Along the way, you’ll see a variety of intricate and beautiful knots, with some simple ones you might even learn to tie yourself. Through vivid illustrations, Alexander will explore the evolution of knots and the increasing complexity of their mathematical structure.”

No economics, business, or mathematical formulae will be presented on the slides – only the beautiful figures of knots.
