‘Work smarter, not harder’ is common advice for increasing effectiveness, but how can we actually achieve this? In the latest episode of the SBE podcast, Professor Piet Eichholtz shares inspiring examples and practical wisdom derived from his successful career of integrating academic research with entrepreneurship and the corporate world.
“I didn’t have a 5-year or a 10-year plan, I had no plan at all…. but I followed the path of my own curiosity”. Eichholtz has let his curiosity drive his actions and life. To identify opportunities is to “be perceptive and listen to what is there and what is not there. Where is the need? You have to listen.”
“If you take more time to read books, to read magazines, and to have discussions with people, your ideas will be better and so it’s far easier to solve problems in the 40 hours that you give yourself for your work. In this way, you can make the right decisions where it counts. You have to be very efficient in the time that you work, but you don’t want to work too many hours… And during your time off, feel good about it, and enjoy it!”
– Prof. dr. Piet Eichholtz
