Last December, we had the honour of hosting 60 executive students from the University of Tübingen for an inspiring programme centred on education in the Netherlands. This week-long immersion brought together educational professionals across borders to exchange knowledge, explore innovative practices, and collaborate on shaping the future of learning.
The week started with insightful sessions by Professor Trudie Schils on the Dutch education system, followed by a session on teacher professionalisation and an engaging discussion on regional and national educational policymaking. From there, participants dove into a variety of experiences, including:
- School visits in Maastricht and Heerlen, offering an up-close view of Dutch education. Schools opened their doors to showcase innovative teaching methods and the child-centred approach that defines the Dutch system.
- Interactive technology sessions, where participants explored how robots, VR, and AR can revolutionise education. Highlights included immersive VR apps, AI-powered avatars for communication training, and virtual chemistry labs.
- A visit to another university focusing on how cooperation fosters educational innovation.
- Experience-sharing discussions, where participants exchanged insights on regional collaboration and best practices from their own educational contexts during thought-provoking sessions and shared perspectives on collaboration across primary, secondary, and higher education.
