Prof. Dr. Edward Huizenga, Professor at UMIO | Maastricht University and Partner at the strategy consulting firm Benthurst & Co., has been named Beta Gamma Sigma 2024 Business Achievement Award winner. Nominated by the Maastricht University Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter, Edward Huizenga receives this honour based on exemplary demonstration of leadership excellence.
The Beta Gamma Sigma Business Achievement Award celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of business. These achievements may span over an entire career or may be the result of a single, notable effort propelling the field forward, benefitting a specific community, society at large, and/or humankind as a whole.
The Maastricht University Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter nominated Prof. Dr. Huizenga, chaired professor for Strategy, Innovation and Behavior Change, for his engagement in leading Handwashing Angels, a high-impact social initiative Edward Huizenga started back in 2019, to encourage the adoption of best practices in hand hygiene to combat infectious diseases that would prevent children from attending school.
Thanks to his tireless engagement and that of multiple purpose-led volunteers and sponsors, Handwashing Angels has scaled quickly and is now live in schools in Kenya, Vietnam, India, and Uganda while actively working on growing and expanding further.
